SC Extended Benefits to End
21/10/09
This was recently released by www.sces.org It would seem that the SC extended benefits program has come to an end, we can only hope that the state and federal agenices will extend unemployment benefits again. I recommend you get in touch with your federal and state representatives now.
Extended Benefits To End
For Immediate Release October 13, 2009
The state Extended Benefits (EB) program in South Carolina has come to an end, the S.C. Employment Security Commission announced today.
The last week for which EB payments may be issued is the claim week ending October 17, 2009.
A state qualifies for the Extended Benefits program based on a set formula outlined in state and federal laws. When the unemployment rate among the number of workers eligible for Unemployment Insurance falls below the federal government’s standard, states automatically trigger off EB. South Carolina no longer meets that minimum requirement and, therefore, no longer qualifies for the program.
Should South Carolina re-qualify for the EB program, or should a different extension become available, all qualified claimants will be notified by mail and given specific instructions at that time. This is not to be confused with the federal extension of unemployment benefits.
An individual who has been certified as a trade affected worker under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program may be eligible for Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA). Those persons should report to their local workforce centers with the notice they receive in the mail after October 17, 2009.
