Emergency Extended Benefits will end by November 30th, 2010, unless Congress votes to extend the program.

The Federal Government offers unemployed workers in states with high unemployment rates emergency extended benefits to help out while searching for work. This program works on a four-tier system that gradually reduces the compensation benefits received.

Tier 1 offers unemployed workers with 20 extra weeks at 80 percent of their original UC benefits. Tier 2 offers 14 extra weeks at 56 percent. Tier 3 reduces benefits checks to 50 percent and lasts for 13 weeks. Tier 4 provides 6 weeks at 24 percent of initial benefits payments.
